why did they not go down that road

a better plot would have been kurt getting into nyada and then, for the Rachel Berry Hour, focusing on how she didn’t get into her dream school but how that isn’t going to STOP HER DREAMS and how her new plan is to go to new york and Show them! Show them she can make it! and maybe she’ll have to waitress and work a double job and audition for every single part including commercials that require her to really look like she enjoys a McDonald’s hamburger, but she will do it and she will MAKE IT.

THAT is how you handle that storyline.
